This month’s assignment for thisisaphotoblog.com was to shoot a self-portrait, inspired by one of the other photographers’ work on TIAPB. This was an incredibly challenging assignment for me! After looking through the websites of ALL the photogs on the site, I chose Jennie Warren as inspiration. Please see below for final product, and click to see the TIAPB entry!

Last week I posted a behind-the-scenes video from my photoshoot with XCVI for the Resort 2010 line. Now the photos are finished! Milla, XCVI’s illustrator, worked hard to draw a french new wave-inspired setting for each picture. Please see below for some of the photos, and check out XCVI’s website for all the looks in color with info about each piece. XCVI also put together a behind-the-scenes video (which includes my stop-motion video). You can find this video below the photos!

I will be showing work in the group exhibit entitled Branded Art: An Art Exhibition Benefiting The Witness to a Dream Foundation. Macy Gray will be DJing, and some amazing artists will be showing (including Mark Ryden, Shepard Fairey, Alan Aldridge..). If you are in the Los Angeles area please come on by. I always have such a great time working with XCVI. I love them and I love my crew who works with me on their shoots! Yesterday was no different. We photographed the Resort 2010 Look Book, using Dawn as a model. The idea was to photograph Dawn against a clean white background. After I do the retouching, XCVI’s illustrator will draw a Parisian scene around Dawn, using (my favorite movie) Breathless as inspiration. I can’t wait to see the final product! In the meantime please check out two short videos I put together; one shot very quickly with my iPhone using the app VintageMaker, and the other put together with stills from a camera we left on a tripod throughout the day. A couple months ago I photographed The Cab for Ragged, by Filter Magazine. You can download the whole issue here!

I was so happy Andrea (photo editor of Ragged) asked me to shoot this, mostly because I have worked with The Cab before and they are so fun! They are really great guys. You can check them out at the Warped Tour this Summer.

My friend Ryan and I have been collaborating on a project about Los Angeles for our photo collective. The Dresden Room is an iconic spot in Los Angeles, and a place we both love to go. If you are in LA and haven’t been there, Marty and Elayne are there performing every single night (excluding Mondays)! They take requests and play such music as Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Dean Martin, among others. It is really a wonderful bar. Please see below for a portrait we photographed of them (click to enlarge).

I brought along my Holga on a hiking trip to Mt. Zion a couple weeks ago. I thought it would be a great subject for our new thisisaphotoblog assignment, Sports! Hiking is the perfect sport for me; I can bring my dog (usually), and it is outdoors (a great place to be when most of the time I am behind a computer). These photos are not retouched or anything, it is all done in-camera. I always forget how fun the Holga is!
